Update 1.0.9
Aground » Devlog
You can now raise your baby dragons and have them follow you around, grow, burn things, and eventually even fly off on them! This update focuses on the familiar system, and you may notice a few other familiars you can have follow you other than the dragons (with various effects).
The full changelog is as follows:
- You can now have familiars! Use the equipment window to set them, and don't forget to feed them on occasion or they won't be able to attack.
- New quests involving dragons and them growing bigger.
- You can now fly off to the right (towards the magic islands), but it just goes to credits with an animation for now.
- Other minor tweaks/improvements/bugfixes.
I also set up a Newsletter for Aground if you want to subscribe and get future update notifications via e-mail.
I hope you enjoy!

Great game!
"Not available on windows" in the itch.io desktop app. You may have to adjust the category to "demo" I've heard.
Hey there, I've been playing this game on Kongregate for a while now, and I'm really excited about all the new updates. However, there seems to be a problem with the Young Dragon familiar...? It only follows me when I'm aboveground, and stops moving when I move downwards to mine. It also only follows me when I'm at the higher parts of the mountain, i.e. the area near the yeti, and stops moving when I get near the area where you can raise dragons. The cat familiar follows me just fine, though, so is this a glitch or is it just a matter of varying characteristics of different familiars? Does it have to do with the size of the familiars? Additionally, this posts presents a gif in which the Baby Dragon sort of helps with the mining, burning through the soil, but within personal gameplay it doesn't happen. Is there a key I'm supposed to click on to make this happen?
Thank you and I await your reply. Thanks for this amazing game so far; I'm looking forward to all your subsequent updates. :)
The baby dragon is just following me as I mine into the mountain (I'm mining fast because I have a dev-cheat pickaxe). The baby dragon doesn't help you mine, the young and adult dragon's breath attack will break dirt and stone tiles, but they will only target enemies (and given how much food their attack takes, it'd be a waste to have them mine).
As for big dragons following you, this is because of their size. If you mine out a large shaft (or have mined out the whole island), they will follow you underground, but they can't fit into little tunnels. You can also teleport them by unequipping and re-equipping them if you have entered a large open space underground. They won't appear when you do this if the space is too small (and the adult dragons need a LOT of space).
Oh, I see! Thanks for taking the time to give such a swift and comprehensive reply. :) And thanks for the great game thus far. (^_^)
